Message from the Headteacher

I hope you have all had a good week’s holiday. It has been good to see the smiling faces around the campus again, for this second half of Term 2. The next five weeks before the Songkran break will be busy with different events, not least our annual Songkran celebrations on Friday 5th April. More information about this important event in the school calendar will be coming nearer the date. Details of other upcoming events can be found in this newsletter.

We are excited to announce that we will be hosting a holiday camp here at HHIS from Tuesday 30th July to Friday 9th August 2024. This will be run by Teems Global, who run many of the FOBISIA sports events, including the tennis tournament that is happening this month. They have lots of experience running holiday camps at international schools in Thailand, and we are delighted to be able to offer this opportunity at our school. HHIS students receive a 5% discount on registration and there is a 10% early bird discount for anyone signing up before May 15th. Detailed information can be found at the end of this newsletter.

Highlights from the week!

Pirates

Our Year 2 students concluded their Paradise Island unit with a Black Widow Cafe Celebration. It was wonderful to see the children perform so confidently in front of an audience. This was an excellent opportunity to focus on speaking and listening skills which are an integral part of our teaching and learning. The students were so proud of themselves and relished in the opportunity to share their learning with their parents. They made some sailor’s hard tack (survival bread), a special pirate grog, and shared their pirate diaries they had written during the pirate adventures.

Thanks must go to the wonderful parents who came to this event dressed up as pirates!

Year 11 Visit to Kanchanaburi

Year 11 had an action packed, leadership focused, residential week in Kanchanaburi before the half term break. The trip called upon students to be intrepid with many of the activities being new to them including, geo-caching, river rescue, stand up paddle boarding and first aid training to name but a few of the things they threw themselves into. Students took responsibility for planning and cooking their own meals and had to adapt constantly to ever changing teams and environments.

The trip provider took the time to email us after the camp to praise the students.
“The students at HHIS are very humble, intelligent and open to learning. HHIS must have a great ethos”.

Ruamrudee International School Model United Nations Conference (RISMUN XVII)

We are proud to celebrate all eight Year 10 students who took part in RISMUN XVII on 24th February. For most of the group, this was their first experience of a senior MUN event. Students delivered rousing opening speeches, negotiated with their peers, crafted diplomatic resolutions to a series of global issues, defended their stances and questioned the efficacy of alternative solutions. Special congratulations to Nellie who was awarded ‘Best delegate’ in the UNHCR Committee for her eloquent debating on refugees from the Israel-Palestine conflict.

Celebrating Student Success

Elisa Year 12 has successfully taken her black belt in karate! This achievement took her almost eight years and over 1100 hours of training. Congratulations Elisa…who now shares her skills in supporting the karate ECA at school.
