We promise: Independent, confident, lifelong learners
HHIS Newsletter – October 7th 2019
Monday October 7th 2019
It was super to see parents of Early Years and Key Stage One children in school last week looking at all the learning that has gone on in this past half term and talking with teachers. Our partnership with parents is hugely important; working together ensures the well-being and progress of students.
This week’s meetings are being held with parents of students in Key Stage 2 and Secondary. Please do let K Kate ( firstname.lastname@example.org ) know if you have any technical difficulties organising appointments and contact class teachers or form tutors if alternative arrangements need to be made.
2 Fast 2 Furious Swimming Meeting
Our swimming team performed brilliantly at the swimming competition at Harrow International School on Saturday. Ben A, Jasmin, Prim, Pun, Phoebe G, Ben T and Emily all gained multiple personal bests, showing how well their hard work in training has paid off.
We also had swimmers who were competing for the very first time and they were so ‘intrepid’. Irina, Mark, Wilma, Matty, Peggy, Peter and Phoenix all competed for the very first time and had fantastic swims. Mikhail competed for HHIS for the first time and gained very impressive fourth and fifth places overall. It is a big competition, there are over a hundred swimmers in each event.
Thank you to Mr Mike and K Pla for taking the team up to Bangkok.
On Sunday, nine intrepid students participated in the 27th Annual Bangkok MUN Conference, discussing pressing global issues that included the crisis in Kashmir, the independence of Kurdistan, nuclear weapons restrictions and international terrorism. Delegates should feel extremely proud of their contributions to a day of thoughtful debate. All HHIS representatives stepped out of their comfort zones to give multiple speeches, pose probing points of information and respond to direct questions from their peers. We also had one successful resolution passed by members of the Arab League. The next MUN event is scheduled to take place on November 10th at Wells International School. Congratulations to Aim, Edward, Fiona, Kym, Leah, Mark, Natalie, Robert and Rose Mr David.
Thank you to all the parents who came to the presentation and tasting session given by Epicure last week. It is always good to understand how to cater for our many differing tastes. The company were also very keen to listen to feedback from parents and will be acting to implement further improvements to the menus as a result of this meeting.
Thai Language Workshop
K Gade and our Thai team will be leading a workshop for parents of first language and advanced Thai learners on Thursday October 10th at 3:30pm. The meeting will be conducted in Thai. The workshop will be very beneficial to help parents support their children at home with reading and writing.
Half Term Holiday
Next week is our half term holiday. We return to school on Monday October 21st. Please note that Wednesday October 23rd is a public holiday (Chulalongkorn Day) and will be a training day for teachers.
Enjoy a relaxing half term holiday with your children.
