We promise: Independent, confident, lifelong learners
HHIS Newsletter – June 4th 2019
Tuesday June 4th 2019
Lunch times took on a new sense of calm last week as our acoustic tiles were installed in the canteen ceiling. They have made an incredible difference. The shading at the end of the canteen and the walkway have also now been completed and these give the finishing touches to our impressive third building.
International Day – Thursday June 27th
Preparations for international day are now well underway. Thank you to those who came to the PTG meeting last week and for the many offers of help.
We aim to hold an international day picnic for the students on the day and would like to ask for your help. Please look out for a separate letter from the PTG giving details of this event.
International day is also our big fundraising day and the students have chosen the charity, ‘One Tree Planted’ http://onetreeplanted.org as well as our PTG. Year 3 will be launching a sponsored ‘Do a good deed for your planet’ initiative in their assembly this Friday. You will receive further details of this fundraising initiative next Monday – June 10th.
International Day Parade
We now have a firm tradition of celebrating the diversity of all our different countries by holding a parade in the morning. We ask our students to dress either in a costume representing their country or in colours of their country. This is a fun event and will be opened by our choir and band. Parents are most welcome to join in the parade, which will start at 8:40am on Thursday June 27th.
Transition Days – Year 6 to Year 7
Our Year 6 students had a wonderful transition day on Friday taking part in activities with some of their new Secondary teachers. The day culminated with a Year 6 and Year 7 evening of fun, pizzas, a lot of laughter, followed by a sleepover. Thank you to our Year 10 leaders and also to Mr Lewis, Ms Kaleigh and Ms Emma.
Early Years children also spent some time with their new teachers last week and were able to meet Ms Rachel, who will be our new Early Years Phase leader. Rachel joins us from Shrewsbury International School in Bangkok. It was lovely to see the children being so confident and happy.
KS1 and KS2
Transition days for Primary will take place after June 13th when the new class allocations will go out to parents
On Tuesday June 11th at 8:40am I would like to invite you to a meeting to tell you about the teachers who will be joining us in August. Please do come if you can. I am very happy to answer any questions about general school issues on these occasions.
Key Stage One’s shopping trip
Year 1 and 2 were busy last week applying their learning about money to a real life shopping trip. On Tuesday, classes had to record prices, write a shopping list and budget by finding the cheapest options. They then returned to Big C later in the week to purchase their goodies. Both classes were fantastic at selecting the right coins and notes to pay and were super representatives of HHIS. For all their hard work, KS1 were rewarded with a big picnic to share the food they purchased. A big well done! Ms Jess
On Wednesday the 22nd of May, students from year 9 and 10 embarked on a trip to Bangkok. They were to watch a performance of Shakespeare’s ‘The Twelfth Night’. After an exciting day, travelling and playing laser tag, the evening came and it was time to enjoy the performance. But it didn’t end there, they also had the opportunity to talk with the actors and the director after the show in a question and answer session. This was an extremely memorable and fulfilling experience from which the students improved their acting skills. They were given advice about how to express feelings through the manipulation of facial features and how to change their expressions and voices to portray different characters. Phoebe King Y9
Reminder that swimming galas take place this week.
Year 5 to Year 10 students should be dropped-off at Black Mountain Park on Friday from 8:00am onwards. Please come and support the children if you can. Please remember to bring your own water bottles too.
