Happy New Year!
We warmly welcomed all our students back this morning including our ten new students.
Our assembly looked ahead to the events of this term especially our sports days, which take place next week. A summary of the main events for this term is given below.
Our morning assembly also focussed on our ‘I’ value ‘Imagination’, with the message that using our imagination helps us to solve problems and think in a different way.
Term 2 ECA information
The ECA information sheet for Term 2 will be sent to you on Monday 6th January. Please review this before the sign-up system on Schoolbase opens on Wednesday at 11am. As always, we have tried to balance the ECAs on offer as best as possible – some previously offered ECAs are no longer available, many more have been added and special thanks are due to our enthusiastic cricket-loving parents who have offered to lead this ECA.
Early Years ECAs
Our youngest children do have quite a long day in school, ECAs reflect this. EY3 students have the opportunity to join ECAs but please note that places are limited as the expectation is that they will join just 2 or 3 activities after school. EY 2 students have a choice of two opportunities for after school sessions. The reason for this limitation is that EY1 and EY2 children are just so very tired after their long day in school.
After school supervision will now only be offered for students in Year 1 to 6. An exception is made for children who travel on the bus.
After-school supervision ECAs
This will now be offered only to students in Year 1 to 6. If your child is not in an ECA and must wait for the school bus or a sibling please make sure they are signed into the Library or Outdoor supervision ECAs for safety reasons. These ECAs are supervised by Teaching Assistants and are NOT for children whose parents are late to collect them – these children will be sent to the school office to wait for their parents. We need to be able to have a full register of children who are in school to ensure their safety and well being.
Term 2 ECA dates
• Term 2 ECAs will start Monday 13th January and will finish on Friday 27th March.
• There will be no ECAs on Monday 10th to Friday 14th February – school closed.
• ECAs will be limited on parent/teacher meeting days.
Please take a moment to remind yourself of how to log-in to the ECA sign-up system on Schoolbase:
If you have any issues with login details please contact our Schoolbase administrator K. Kate ( email@example.com )
ECA fees will be invoiced in full during the third week of term. If your child attends for one session in the first week of ECAs but decides that they do not wish to continue with a charged ECA, you must inform the office during the first week (13th to 17th January) otherwise you will be liable to pay for the entire term. Careers Talk on Friday 10th January for Students and Parents
We are delighted to welcome Mr Tomas Koch of McKinsey and Company on Friday 10th January. The talk is at 2.30-3.30pm in the meeting room for students in Year 9 – 11. Parents are also very welcome to join. Tomas will talk about his education, career and share his advice for future employment. Tomas has enjoyed many international successes, working with the leading oil, gas, and chemical companies across Asia on sustainable growth and operational excellence. It will be a wonderful opportunity for our highly aspirational students to be able to take part in this session. Please do come if you can. We give thanks to Tomas for this very valuable session.
Wearing school uniform shows pride in our school and a respectful attitude to learning. We do note that some students are growing taller and skirts are getting shorter. We will be talking to our secondary students this week about appropriate dress code and how this relates to the world of work. The visit of external speakers emphasises this point.
We look forward to our sports days next week, at a slightly cooler time of year. Students should wear their teams colours as they arrive at school in the morning. Students should pack their uniforms to change into, we also encourage upper KS2 and secondary students to bring a towel and shower gel. Please also encourage your child to bring their water bottle and a hat. The sports days will take place from 08:40 – 11:00 (EY – 09:00 start). We warmly welcome you to support the students and we hope that some of our EY parents will get involved in some events too. After the events, there will be a short presentation and an opportunity to get some pictures.
At the end of term 1 the U17 boys basketball team competed in the inaugural Somtawin Basketball League. The players worked extremely and played very well as a team, improving with each game. The team showed excellent character and resilience in the last game and fought well to earn a well deserved victory. Congratulations to all the players, you were a credit to the school.
Summary of Events this term
We wish Years 10 and 11 good luck as they take their mock exams this week.
