We promise: Independent, confident, lifelong learners
HHIS Newsletter – April 1st 2019
Monday April 1st 2019
Term 2 has flown by with a crescendo of activity in the final days of the term, culminating in our Songkran celebrations on the Friday April 5th, the last day of term. The day will begin with a Buddhist ceremony at 8:00am in the canteen. This will be followed by a short performance and Water Pouring Ceremony at 8:40am. We welcome parents to the morning celebrations. The children will go on to enjoy water play activities during the day.
The Jazz Dancers gave us a lively and fun performance last Friday as they demonstrated the dances learnt during their dance ECA. Jazz dance ECAs will continue next term and they are open to new members.
Year One Assembly
We were all entranced by the polished presentation of our Year One children on Friday. They showed us just how ‘intrepid’ they had been in their learning and reminded us all about the importance of taking risks, trying new things and taking on challenges.
Samakee International School Games
We were delighted to welcome our ‘sister’ school, St Andrews to our school on Friday and Saturday for team games, a social evening and sleep over. Our students in Year 6 to 9 performed with great skill and thoroughly enjoyed the friendly competitive spirit.
There were football games, basketball matches, an excellent showcase of tee-ball talents and the swimming gala finale on Saturday morning was full of excitement! With all the scores tied going into the final two freestyle swim relays, our HHIS team was happy to reach the finish line just a few inches ahead of St Andrews. Following the swimming gala, students then took the chance to enjoy Black Mountain Water Park. It was good to see so many new friendships being forged.
On Saturday morning, eight of our Year 10 students travelled with the Jungle Aid Foundation to support the villagers of Pala-U Noi. The students implemented a waste disposal project they have been working on for the Global Social Leaders international competition. It was another wonderful experience that further developed student skills and cultural awareness.
Sunday Choir performance at the Marriott Resort Hotel
Our school choir sang beautifully in the front of an enraptured audience in the ballroom of the Marriott Hotel. They children have been practising hard for a long time and it was an exquisite performance on Sunday. Thank you to Mr Jeremy and the great accompanists: Mr Tom, Mr Von and Mr Aaron. Big thanks to Goetz and the team at the Marriott hotel who were most generous hosts.
We were very pleased to welcome Trevor and Jason from the Epicure Catering Company last week. We had some very fruitful meetings with our school council and with parent representatives. The new menus show changes in response to suggestions and views put forward.
It is heartening to see everyone working together to ensure that our school lunches and snacks are healthy, balanced and also enticing to our students.
ECAs will not run during this last week of term and the school buses will therefore leave school at 3:30pm each day. Mr Jeremy has already started working on ECAs for term 3! The choices are growing.
End of Term
Friday April 5th is the last day of term. We return to school on Monday April 22nd.
We wish everyone a happy and safe Songkran and Easter holiday.
