Our curriculum is based on the English National Curriculum and adapted to suit the needs of our learners in an international environment. Subjects are integrated where appropriate and learning is ‘blocked’ into exciting, relevant topics. An extensive extra-curricular programme supports our broad curriculum and we publish a complete programme of after school clubs for each term.
Our school’s ethos is deeply rooted in a child-centred approach, based upon a comprehensive understanding of the needs of each child. Our imaginative and innovative curriculum promotes high achievement and captures children’s interest and enthusiasm for learning. When you visit the school during a normal working day, you will find a range of teaching methods being used to ensure that every child is given the best opportunity to achieve maximum efficiency in literacy, numeracy, technology, within a wide range of subjects.
Key Stage Four – IGCSE options
HHIS is a Cambridge International School and Assessment Centre, and all our subjects studied by Year 10 and 11 students are IGCSE qualifications. Cambridge IGCSEs are recognised by universities and employers around the world. The subjects we offer are broken into 3 areas which include the core subjects, languages and options. This provides our students a wide range of choice that best suits their interests, talents and importantly their future aspirations.
Every year during Term 1 we talk to our students about the different subjects and assess their interests for the future. Then during Term 2 we host parent afternoons to discuss academic progress and to also consider future subject choices. By fullying understanding the interests and aspirations of our students, as a school we can offer a flexible timetable model that is catered to our student demand. We will continue to embed this style of consultation within our IGCSE planning in the future, as we know that offering the subjects that students want to study will ensure they can enjoy and achieve in their learning.
